EMU Black, ECU Master
I have worked with Electromotive Engine Management Units (EMU) for the last 19 years. Since 2008 with the TEC-GT. It started being unstable in early 2020 and I got no support from Electromotive, probably because of the Corona situation in US from March 2020.
I have followed the guys from Poland making ECU Master since they started in 2008. I think it was right time to change to the EMU Black. It should be the most advanced EMU in the aftermarket.
A change to a new EMU is a challenging job both in hardware and software. As usual I did this very detailed, setting everything up in my lab, testing and learning the software. I have developed an engine Crank and Cam simulator in hardware with 500 to 8.000 RPM. This was done for my own Traction Control development in 2013.
The EMU Black have built in Traction (TC) and Launch Control (LC). The small Control Panel in my test set-up pictures is for the control of the TC and LC and the Water Injection. About this on a later web page.
I have made a video that goes through some of the ‘good to know stuff’ to start out with the EMU Black. There is also a video of the test set-up.
The EMU Black is fantastic in data log and the following analysis. When I have the laptop with me, I log the trip from start to end. All sensor data will be logged.
The Auto Tune system also is very detailed. See pictures.
I have road Mapped the car to a good low load economy and a with a Turbo Boost Map up to 270kpa.
One thing missing in the EMU Black is the ability to input analog data. Example from my Torque and Power System TQP 800/900 or data from my own Traction Control System.
One problem I still have to fix is an ‘engine cut’ at high boost up to 300kpa regardless of parameter setting. Maybe a MAP input filter setting…
